Points Match 7, The Lark, Prickwillow, 8th September 2019
I couldn’t make this match and so cannot comment on pre match banter among the 13 who were lucky enough to be there but with Kevin now back in action it would have been entertaining! It may have been even better afterwards as Kevin DNW despite drawing notoriously hot peg No 4! I think he’s still coming to the next match where we can check whether he has remembered what to do. To be fair, although why should we be, it was again the higher number pegs above the moorings that on average performed better, consistent with the last match here and also practice sessions. It was also notable that there were 3 DNWs in the lower number pegs, those that always used to win.
The exception of course was Jason, who again drew the peg opposite the willows and again won with a shade under last time’s weight of 14 lb 4 oz, no tench or bream this time just a net full of small silvers on pinkie. We should probably conclude that less luck was involved than with the tench & bream but we still can’t say whether the win was down to the angler or the swim, let’s see how he does next time before offering too much credit.
Ken managed 2nd but with only 8 lb 11 oz, followed by Gwyn with 6 lb 10 oz and Trevor just 3 oz behind that. These better weights all coming from above the moorings.
So another odd day at Prickwillow with no obvious reason why the fish seemed to have moved from low to high peg numbers, hopefully it will settle to a more even venue in future.
Our next points match is on 22nd September on Reach Lode at Upware. As usual please book with Trevor if you wish to fish, details as per the club book.
