River Cam

Ian Asplen sent us this catch report, Last Day of Season on the Cam:
Made the long journey back up to the Cam on the last day of the season. Arrived just before 6am at Baits Bite. There was a cold breeze blowing down the river. After unloading the car and a short walk down stream to the shallows, which I have not fished for some years, I decided to set up just a waggler rod. Looking in my box I selected a 3AAA straight peacock. I will fish this at about 4ft deep with 3 no8s spread out down the line. If I remember it should be about a foot off bottom, attaching a size 18 hook, putting two bronze on. I make a cast to the far bank and straight in the bushes - that's a good start! After tackling up again I make a second cast, this time perfect. Out with a big pouch of maggots the float was running through nicely. It slid up the rod tip bends over after a couple of minutes a nice 3lb Chub come to the net. Out with another pouch of maggots. Out go the float. The float dips again. Again another Chub makes its way to the net. After a great mornings waggler fishing I finished with 11 Chub from 3/4lb to 3lb plus the odd Roach or two. With a pub lunch beckoning in the Lion and lamb at Milton. Then the long drive home down the A10. I will be back again next season. Roll on June 16th.
