Heritage
Lake, Cottenham
Look
for mild conditions and head for this venue.
It is quite open in the Fen and so watch the weather forecast.
You have no need to fish at distance on this venue although the
Carp boys like to fish popped-up baits against the island for the bigger
fish.
If
you just fancy a day after anything that swims then fish a waggler with a
few shot down either sweetcorn on a 14 or red worm over a couple of balls
of groundbait. Maggot will
produce but you may have an hour or so of catching very small Rudd before
the large fish show.
A
good tip for this venue is walk the bank before you start.
Look for colour in the water.
I have found on some days that certain areas are clear and others
have colour. Always fish
where the water is coloured. The fish are there!

Sweetcorn
is producing well for the larger Roach and Rudd fished against the rushes
near the island. Floating
bread will produce if you are patient.
The Carp are now 5 to 7 lb, so don’t fish light!!
An
alternative method is to fish close to the bank and keep dunking little
pieces of luncheon meat in to the water.
This method will produce Carp, which seem to like to hug the bank.

This
is a fun venue. You never
quite know what you may catch. It
is quite deep 7 to 9 ft and so there is no need to fish very far out. Casters over a little groundbait or worm over chopped worm
produces well. The Tench go to about 3 lb in here, so don’t use too fine
a line.
This
is a mysterious water, quite deep but you can catch. High in the water there are 10 Carp in this venue, six
double-figure fish. You will
need to put some hours in to this venue to catch these fish!! But you
could just get lucky with a floating bait late in the evening.
The
Rudd and Roach can be taken mid-water, fished on the pole with cloud
groundbait and loose feed. This
is a hard water but is quiet and out of the way.

Tench
and occasional Crucian close to the bank or close to the Lilly pads.
Casters or red maggot seem to be the favoured baits.
Fish further out for the Bream and Skimmers.
The Roach are not really showing on this venue yet.
