Jamie Bruce was crowned the Over All Junior Champion at CFPAS Ltd’s Junior, Ladies and OAP’s match on the River Cam above Baits Bite Lock on Saturday 10th September 2011. His catch, a mixed bag of fish weighing a respectable 1lb 6oz, also giving him the John West Trophy in the 14 – 16 age group with Holly Irvine-Legge collecting the John West trophy in the 12 – 13 age group as well as picking up the John West Trophy as the top girl with 1lb 4oz. Her catch also contained a very unusual coloured Rudd weighing 8oz which also gave her the Specimen Fish award - the Jack Baker Memorial Cup. Morgan Tritton collected the John West Trophy as the runner up in the Girls Section while fishing in her first match. In the 8 – 11 age group the John West trophy went to Peter Jack Mcadam with 12½ oz.
Keely Webb, who was also fishing in her first match, was presented with the John West Achievement Award as voted by the helpers and coaches. Caroline Willis was the top Lady collecting the Percy Anderson Memorial Trophy and Robert Chapman picking up the Percy Anderson Memorial Trophy in the OAP section again with a mixed bag of fish weighing a respectable 4lb 14oz.

While it was very overcast at the start of the match we had the sun shine through occasionally which made it a very enjoyable day. It has been especially pleasing to have a number of juniors taking part for the very first time, some of whom attended the clubs coaching events earlier in the year. Everybody on the day has caught some fish while learning some new skills and thanks to Mr West at West Renault Dealers everybody went home with some lovely prizes. Every Junior also received an additional prize of a Browning Reel that were donated by Cambridge Charity Fundraisers and Browning Tackle and Michael & Fiona over at Willow Grange Tackle supplying a tackle voucher which was presented to the Over All Junior Champion Jamie Bruce.
My thanks to everybody who took part, all the helpers and coaches and a special thanks to our sponsors and those who donated the extra prizes. John Pope Junior Event Co-ordinator.
On a very warm day the participants gathered for Cambridge Fish Preservation Ltd’s Junior, Ladies and OAP’s match on the River Cam above Bates Bite Lock. Everyone taking part caught fish in what were quite difficult conditions, a very clear river with weed floating down.
William Easey, Vicki Symonds, Peter Jack Macadam, Georgia Drake, John Pope (Junior Event Co-ordinator) and Norman Knightly
On the day William Easey won the Ralph Bayfield Trophy in the boys 12-13 age group with a weight of 1lb 1oz with a very nice Bream in the catch weighing in at 1lb 10oz. Georgia Drake collected the Jim Reynolds Trophy in the Boys 8-11 age group weighing in a very good mixed bag catch of 2lb 8oz with Peter Jack Mcadam picking up the Jim Legg Memorial Trophy in the runners up spot. Peter Jack Mcadam also collected the Brett Howard Memorial Trophy as voted for by the stewards on the day.
Georgia Drake also won the Marie Tweed Trophy in the girls section and was crowned the Over All Junior Champion collecting the Bill Sharp Memorial Cup for the second year running. The Kelly Cup for Ladies was won by Vicki Symonds with 7oz while Norman Knightly collected the Reg Berryman Cup in the OAP section with 3lb 10oz, Peter Proctor was second with 2lb 14oz and Barry Matthews third with 11/2oz.
Junior Event Co-ordinator John Pope said "My thanks go to everybody who came, to all the stewards who helped out on the day and to Mr West of West Renault Dealers who continues to sponsor the event meaning all the participants go home with some lovely prizes".
The second round of Cambridge charity fund raiser's series in aid of Magpas was fished on the Old West at Stretham Old Engine on a day when the weather conditions - violent thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong wind - made it more like the wild west. Three anglers had their poles snapped in the wind and the river was thick with weed, however, the river fished well.
The winner was Liam Darler who put in a top performance weighing in 15lb 11oz a mixed bag of silver fish taken on pinkie backed up with three tench. Second on the peg next door was Liam's father Ian Darler who weighed 7lb 11oz, again a mixed bag of skimmers, roach and a tench, third was Mick Curtis who had all silver fish for 6lb 1oz.
We would like to thank our sponsors for this event, Cambridge Fish Preservation and Angling Society, Zebco/Browning tackle.
Fourteen anglers took part including one junior member. The morning started out very grey and with light rain; we all took a soaking before we could start. The weather did improve, though, with some sunshine, although the wind was a bit strong at times. The lode was very clear, but there were quite a few fish topping.
Anglers the day before had good catches so we were all ready to go.....Alas the fish were not. I really do not know why but the fish were reluctant to feed and were indeed in tight shoals moving around. Lode expert Ken Whitmore managed to catch some lovely Roach on bread punch - fish to 4oz all in top condition.

The winner of the Junior Section was James Bruce with 6oz.
Halfway through the match I had a visit from Trevor. He sneaked up to see what I was doing! Anyhow he did ask after Mr Ian Darler and brought a tear to my eye when he said he missed him! Awwwwwwwww We all do mate. Funny how you can miss a miserable git!
You may have noticed I got in the coin again. Yes, God knows how, but I seem to be getting some form or perhaps I just had a shed full in front of me! I have won a few on the Lode over the years but still think it would be best to turn it into a road. I fished the waggler just to be different well, ermm, because I have a crap pole and my rigs are even worse. I will correct that - my single rig was all bust up and I could not be arsed to make another up!
Our next club points is on Sunday 16th October on the lode at Upware. Contact Graham 01223234616 draw 8am fish 9-3
Ten anglers braved the bitter conditions for our Christmas match on a very clear River Cam. The fish are shoaled up tight, but most anglers caught Roach. The winner had fish to a pound on bread punch. The higher pegs only producing very small fish.

Pinkie and ground bait again did the business. The next sweepstake on the river Lark on the 29th of January will be on the pegs below the bridge.
Graham Tweed, President CFPAS Ltd.
A drop in temperature did not deter the Silver Fish from feeding on the pegs along the roadside at Prickwillow. Fishing pinkie and a little ground bait produced small Roach, Rudd and Bleak.

Ian Claydon is a keen supporter of the club, a lad who has plenty of commitments but when he can, fishes our matches and...usually wins! Ian has never forgiven me for his accident in falling in on the Lode at the weigh in at a winter match. A big lad who, like many, is a gentle giant and so I did not get chucked in myself despite his very cold soaking. You see he blames me for it but I still proclaim my innocence, just let go of the net as he slipped in. Well I can't be expected to let myself fall in as well, might have messed up my hair.
I seem to recall it was a very cold February day; I had to peg the match in the dark as we had an early start. The Lode at Burwell was partly iced up and so that water must have been cold. I did get a scare though while pegging. In the gloom, me and a socking great deer came face to face. I am not certain who was scarred the most, but the beast jumped into the Lode and went to the other bank. Funny thing though it did not make as big a splash as Ian.......Oops may have pushed it a bit far this time!
You will notice I have not fished the winter matches, me and Harry have gone into hibernation. I am still, though, slim-line Tweed despite the Christmas feast.
Our next sweepstake will be somewhere on the Cam just call Mick Curtis for details.
Graham Tweed, President CFPAS Ltd.
Mick Curtis managed to get our match on at Logan's Way on the Cam. Things were hard and some did not catch, but at least the lads got out after the big freeze. Catches comprised Roach to punch bread on tiny hooks. We really do need some rain and mild weather to perk up catches on our rivers as we go into the end of the river season.

Our next sweepstake match is on 4th March and has been moved to the River Lark, telephone Mick on 01223564624. The venue for our 12th and last Club Championship match has yet to be decided and will depend on the weather and if we get any decent rainfall. Keep an eye on the website for details.
Graham Tweed, President CFPAS Ltd.
Roach, mainly between 2oz and 4oz, were the norm for the eleven anglers who braved the wind rain and snow! A couple of lads had Rudd to 1lb, most also got bothered by Pike that have migrated into the area after the bait fish. Pinkie and ground bait scored best. The river is in fine form and so our final club match of the season on Sunday, 11th of March will be held on the venue.

So we go into our last points match and it’s all about the places as Harry, bless him, has already wrapped up the league. So I guess he’ll stay tucked up in bed until our AGM in May, when he’ll get his reward as champ. A fine angler and good all round chap is Harry er Mark....well done mate.
