LAKE CLOSURE

HERITAGE LAKE

COTTENHAM

SATURDAY 24TH MAY - SUNDAY 25TH MAY

Heritage Lake at Cottenham will be closed on Saturday 24th May ready for the pairs match to be held on Sunday 25th May

Anyone wishing to fish the match on Sunday 25th May must please contact Graham on 01223 234616 as pegs are limited.

NETHERGROVE LAKE - REFURBISHMENT PROJECT

The refurbishment / tidying up of the lake and surround is well underway.  Some of the work done would appear quite brutal with the significant cutting back of bank side trees and bushes.  The swims however, have become in a couple of areas quite overgrown and so we have taken this action before they become too closed up.

Further work is planned with the re-establishment of swims opposite the island and the pruning of trees along the high bank.  Next winter the island will be coppiced.  We do this every 5 or 6 years.  Hopefully in the next month some Carp, Ghost and Koi will be introduced.  These fish go up to a pound in weight and will, we feel add sport to the venue.

Anyone interested in helping with the restoration project please contact Graham on 01223 234616.  Our Bailiff Rodger over at Block Fen wishes to organise a litter pick at our Mepal venue.  Please contact Graham if you can offer an hour or so this Spring.

Great News....

With the new season fast approaching you will be glad to here that CFPAS Ltd. have held their Annual Membership price for the coming year... With a bargain Adult Membership available for £25 and Under 16 / OAP / Concessions available for £10 what are you waiting for???

CFPAS LTD Fishery, Barway.

I regret to report that access to the Ouse at Barway (pump) Section is prohibited.  The Landowner has locked the access gate and will not allow anglers access.  This action is not a result of anglers but persistent fly-tipping on his land.

CFPAS LTD has attempted to negotiate with the Landowner but without success.  We regret therefore that this fishery is no long accessible to CFPAS LTD members and we have advised our Landlords the Environment Agency accordingly.

Level 2 Coaching Certificate

I am delighted to report that Alan Brown and John Pope have successfully completed their professional Angling Association run course for the Level 2 Certificate in coaching angling on 1st 4 Sport qualification.  CFPAS LTD and the Environment Agency were co-sponsors of Alan and John who will be presented with their certificates in the near future.  The course is quite intensive and requires a considerable amount of personal time to complete.  CFPAS LTD is proud to boast that we now have four Level 2 licensed coaches and three Level 1 coaches in delivering our coaching programme.  All are happy to talk about their experience in getting the qualification and whilst we will tell you it is a lot of work we will also say how rewarding it is.

ON 25th May the Angling Development Boards Development Officer Julian Taylor advised us that our Club is to be awarded the coveted Sport England Club Mark.  An independent panel representing Sport England reviewed our portfolio and have congratulated us on our evidence.

This is fantastic news.  CFPAS Ltd. is now one of six Angling Clubs in the country to have reached the required standards set for Club management, coaching and provision of safer and structured opportunities for youngsters to become involved in the sport.

Working towards Club Mark has provided us with the impetus to launch our new coaching programme giving youngsters the chance to receive tuition from accredited angling coaches.

We have over the last few years sought to modernise our management approach to running the Club.  Club Mark has provided us with the targets of quality procedures to help drive forward.

Congratulations to all involved in the submission portfolio and to those who have undertaken the training to become coaches.

Level 1 Coaching

Five Club members have successfully completed the Level 1 Coaching In Angling Award and are awaiting their certificates – Alan Brown, Martin Croxon, Ian Darler, Liam Darler and John Pope.

I believe that they are the first group to have completed the two-day course, which included “Homework” something many of us thought we would never have to do again!  Congratulations to  them all.  On receipt of their certificates it will mean that CFPAS LTD can boast having two Level II Accredited Coaches and five Level 1’s.  It is hoped that some of the lads if not all will take up the opportunity to go on to the Level II Accreditation.

Club anglers wishing to know more about the Coaching Courses can access via our links page to the NFA Website.  Alternatively please do not hesitate to contact Graham Tweed for details on how CFPAS LTD may be able to help you in becoming an Accredited Coach.

Come along to our AGM on Wednesday 2nd May at Cambridge United Football Club.  Officials, Coaches and Club Members are on hand to provide information about your Club.

Club Mark

CFPAS LTD formally submitted our portfolio of evidence to our National governing body in March 2007.  All the indications are that we will be successful in our submission and hope to learn of this by the time of our AGM.

Club Mark is a cross-sport quality accreditation for Clubs with Junior Sections.  The scheme has been in place since 2002 and there are now 2,500 accredited clubs across 25 sports.  Club Mark is the Sport England Mark of high quality of Clubs.  Sport England’s objective of having 5,000 accredited Clubs by 2008 is half achieved.  To our knowledge there are only 5 Angling Clubs in the country with accreditation, 3 of the Clubs worked with the NFA as pilot Clubs and so if we become the sixth in the country then I think we can be justifiably proud.  We must not though rest on our laurels; on the contrary I believe it is only the start of us having a higher profile in the community.

New Annual Membership

Our New Season Permits have been available for a month now and are flying out the door!  If you have not already done so then now is the time to purchase your Club Book even if you are a traditionalist and do not go fishing until June.  Early purchases help your Club as at the start of the financial year we have our rent demands and so it is always good to have New Season Membership fees coming in to our account.

December 2005

CFPAS Ltd are pleased to announce that we are to manage a new fishery on the Ouse at St Neots.  The fishery is owned by RWEnpower is just above the St. Neots By-Pass Bridge (Cambridge side) and is known locally as the Little Barford Power Station Fishery.  For many years when the Power Station was Nationally owned the river was regularly fished by Power Station workers with Little Barford holding Inter Power Station contests with their colleagues across the country.

For the past 10 or so years the riverbank has been neglected and dense planting has prevented angling from many of the swims.  RWEnpower colleagues and CFPAS Ltd representatives recently had a swim-clearing morning, which resulted in access to two-thirds of the swims on the fishery.  Further working parties are planned before 16th June in order that access may be gained to all swims.

Once a prolific Roach fishery, the Ouse in this area is now better known for its double figure Carp specimen, Bream, Chub, Perch and Tench.  The river is between 8 and 14ft deep and runs clear in the summer months with flow left to right.  Winter targets the large Chub that frequent the river along with the prolific Perch.  Access to the fishery is via the industrial estate.  Parking strictly in the roadway.

CFPAS Ltd are also pleased to advise that two of our members Will Temple and Graham Tweed have been successful in completing the Level II Certificate in coaching angling. For more details on the course and possible sponsorship opportunities please contact Graham on 01223 234616.

Our very own Trevor Sturge can be seen holding his best ever Perch a magnificent 2 lb – 13 oz capture on the Lode in our recent Club Match.  A TRUE BABE, “Nice goaty Trev”.

August 2005

I consider the opportunity to represent one’s Club at Nationals as an honour and so I was encouraged when we had it confirmed that a number of first-time representatives were to fish for us.  Anglers coming from our successful Club Match scene.

Our team came a credible 32nd from 59 on a less than charitable River Nene, made more difficult as in some areas access/parking was hopeless. some lads not getting to their pegs with very little time left before the off.

Club Champion Liam Darler in his first appearance in this event was our top points scorer with 52.  A fantastic result.  Liam stuck to his task on the North Bank and is certainly one for the future.  Other solid performances were recorded from newcomers Ken, Craig and Andrew who have been fishing our Club Matchs.

Stalwarts Tony, Maurice, Ray and Simon stuck in there.  Sadly some of our lads found themselves in pegs that should not be included in such an event, why does this keep happening and so my commiserations go to Ian and Trevor, surely a fishable swim is the least to be expected – o.k. rant over!

Encouraged by this performance from a largely rebuilt team our lads are looking forward to the Eastern Region Shield in October.  Will we enter two teams!
