Voiceability Fishing Session - 16 June 2011
The Voiceability group at The Manderson Fishery
CFPAS Ltd were contacted by Next Steps, a project run by the Registered Charity Voiceability (formerly Advocacy Partners Speaking Up) who were running a course for young adults with learning disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) called “Lets Team Up”.
The course aims are to improve social skills, confidence and independent skills in the community. Five members of the group wanted to give fishing a try and we arranged a session at The Manderson Trust Fishery.
Fishing is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, sexes, and a disability with the right support and encouragement. They all caught a number of fish each during the session. The different species of fish caught were Rudd, Tench, Perch and a Fan Tailed Cross Crucian.
Each member received a certificate showing their attendance at the fishing session along with some literature on fishing.
Yvette Parfett the Next Steps Project Co-ordinator said that the general feedback from the group was that they thought it better than expected and they were surprised how many fish they had caught. Thanks again for your patience and expert help – we all thoroughly enjoyed it.
Yvette can be contacted on 07872 601829.
ParkLife 2011 - 24th July 2011 Milton Country Park
A family coaching session
This event was part of the UK wide Open Weekend celebrations enabling people to take part in sport, arts and culture events, and was a one year countdown to the London 2012 Olympics. And CFPAS LTD’s coaching team were asked to provide coaching for the angling event.
On a lovely warm sunny day the CFPAS Coaching Team gave 61 people of varying ages and sexes the opportunity to try Angling within a safe and encouraging environment. While there were many other activities going on around the park Angling was certainly one of the most popular, with just about everyone who had a go catching a least one Rudd with the occasional Perch also being caught.
Many of the fish caught by the youngsters were put on display in the Environment Agency’s large fish tank on wheels where people were able to get a closer look at the fish which also proved very popular.
John Pope the clubs Junior Event Co-ordinator said it was an excellent day as the more people we can get interested in angling the better. By trying angling in these sessions it gives them confidence and also the understanding of what is required to catch fish and can only help us to get more people into the sport. Everybody who took part got a certificate and fishing booklet to take away thanks to National Fishing Month.
John's thanks go to the coaches and to Mr Mick Dant of Waterside Angling Supplies for supplying the bait for the coaches on the day.
