Burwell
and Reach Lodes - between the A1123 / B1102 - Cambridgeshire
These waterways are not canals or
traditional Fenland dykes but Lodes !! covering a distance of 7 or so miles
to the North West of Cambridge. They start as two "Rivers" joining
but effectively look like and fish like a canal, a fishery that never
floods.
Both are approximately 15 metres wide and
between 2 to 3 metres in depth. The locals love fishing the
wheat for Roach and sweetcorn for the abundant Bream and Tench.
It is not uncommon to see the Specimen hunter on the
Lodes for Pike and Zander in the Winter. There
are some real lunkers lurking in the rushes and we’ve received reports of 20lb. plus Carp.
How
to get there...
