River Lark

Sunday 11th October 2009

Steve Palmer continued his fine form with a win on the river Lark.  His catch consisting of roach bleak and small chubb caught on maggot and pinkie.  The rest of the best were also made up of similar catches either to the waggler or pole.

The three amigo's were separated in class!  They were pegged apart much to the relief of the rest of us and so we ended up having a peaceful day. After an hour and a half I became fed up not catching and got the munchies.  I walked the fifteen pegs up to Mr Darler to try and scrounge some food - "I have got a mince pie you can have but I have got bored myself not catching and virtually eaten all my stuff!" A very nice puff-pastry mince pie was handed to me which I scoffed like a little boy who had just scrumpied an apple.  What a kind chap Mr Darler is.  Poor old Ian - no fish and I have just eaten his mince pie.  Later on at the weigh in Ian continued to tell porkies declaring that he had not done very well, then he pulls out his net full of roach, and to cap it all he was devouring a huge pasty and had in his other hand a meat-filled roll as he walked along to see the other catches, Na mate done rubbish today!

I think Mr Darler is a contender for the porkies award.

Hard luck story of the match apart from mine was Brian "rawhide Dominguez".  An hour into the match he gets a call stating the cattle have got out and so off he went to round up the steers and aptly Sporting his leather cowboy hat, eventually turning up back at the match two hours later. Yee ha! It all happens at our matches.

I did not catch much - not much change there then! So with plenty of inactivity I was left to contemplate and become all poetic and in tune with nature.  "The gentle breeze created this whispering sound in the rushes, the tweak and then a blue flash as the kingfisher flew by together with the scupper of a moorhen crossing the water to attack another bird.  Oh yes, and the sound of munching celery came from near my feet, another little critter probably a hillbilly cousin of the one that pestered me all day along the Lode at our last match.  This one was not so greedy although I did give him a deliberate fright by occasionally stamping the ground with my foot which would silence him for a while and then it would be back to......crunch, crunch, bloody crunch."6hrs of this! I think I prefer foghorn leghorn darler chuntering on.  Moan moan moan I don't know how Lisa puts up with it!

Now this story must be worthy of help at Nethergrove Lake this Sunday 9am onwards clearing swims.  If you can help telephone Graham on 01223-234616.Watch out for the date and venue for our xmas match, you know the match where we swap last years unwanted presents and pretend to be cheerful.
