Burwell Lode

Sunday 20th September 2009

A fantastic day, in the heart of the fen.  Catches were made up of skimmers, rudd and perch with bonus eels.  Pinkie seemed to be the best bait although warm accounted for the eels and perch.  Steve Palmer catching one of 1-15.

Tactics were down the track and under the far bank boats.  On reflection catches were very good as we did have a lot of boat traffic.  I am not going to moan as they do keep this little river clear of weed!

The three amigos were draw next to each other, aka Ian Darler,  Mick Curtis and Trevor Sturge.  What A racket they made all day long....at the end none of them had over 2lbs and you will never find out what they caught on.  Who will win the porkies trophy this year?

The lode was very busy with boaters, joggers,  walkers and Hobbits!  Long ginger bearded people with little eyes.  As you can tell I did not catch much and spent much of my time observing what was going on around me.  Us anglers were like little Noah's hidden amongst the reeds.  You could not see your fellow angler except for or poles .Opposite was quite different with much activity of people messing around on boats and walking up and down the bank to wicken fen reserve. All kinds of sights even people with extendable walking sticks two in each hand...but no snow what's going on.  Fair play to the dog walkers.  I could not watch as my dog did a poo and then pick the steaming lump up with a inside out plastic bags.

What Happens to these tied up bags of muck?  There was also much wild life to be seen and heard. Three deer appeared in the field opposite, birds of prey hovered ,and the Turn with one leg is still around .A little creature was with me all day in the undergrowth Crunching on the vegetation like someone eating celery.  All day crunch crunch crunch....only thing I could think of is what a guts ache this little critter was going to have.  So to our next match on the Lark on the 11th of October. I will dutifully hand over my cash and hope I get lucky.
