CFPAS OPEN DAY

SUNDAY 19th JULY 2009

MILTON COUNTRY PARK

CFPAS Family Open Day

Sunday 19th July 2009

We were greeted by a mild day with a light breeze as we entered  Milton Country Park our venue for the open day. As we set up the clouds were getting greyer but as always when you start a fishing session your nervous anticipation of what may unfold takes hold.

Thoughts of  a whopper and big nets of fish come to mind and as you tackle up you often think back on the good times .Today was no different except it was going to be a coaching day, half hour sessions for anyone who wanted to have a go and so that excitement  is transferred to those you are introducing to angling. Let there be no doubt though to see the joy on someone's face as they catch their very first fish is as equally rewarding  as any personal success. five angling coaches were ready to help, John, Will, Alan, Tony, and myself along with waggler and pole demonstrations from Daren, Matt and Ian.

The organisation of the day is down to John who is to be congratulated for all his hard work because let there be no doubt a huge effort is needed to put on an event like this.  The environment agency were there with their  tank of fish and display.

Pond dipping treks were available and goody bags for all.

The Tweedy burgers were not available this year but instead we were treated to huge bacon baguettes and steaming hot tea and coffee courtesy of the parks coffee shop. My bacon filled roll was somewhat light on the old bacon and only after the coaching session did I learn that Will had borrowed some bacon from my roll! A big thank yoyo to Roy and Sharon who with military precision booked in the participants sorted the goody bags and kept everyone happy and thanks to Mick for helping the old man back with his tackle I was not putting on the limp honest! Just under 50 coaching sessions were delivered.

Here are some of the fantastic responses we received...

Dear Organiser,

We just want to say a huge thank you for putting on this lovely event for the children.  Its been a great intro to fishing – really spurred us on to take the kids (we both fished as children ourselves).  Thank you also for the lovely gifts of the poles and accessories. Fantastic morning John Pope was very patient and informative.

Thanks Again
